HOT TOPICS

Presented by
ADVOCATES FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE UUCSR

Friends of North Bay Regional Center  supports and serves families with children who have special needs, including autism, intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy or epilepsy, and who are associated with North Bay Regional Center. Friends of NBRC meet families request for special items not otherwise funded by NBRC, such as special recreational activities, communication devices; and rental assistance and support for utilities for young adults who are striving to be independent.  This extra help is often pivotal in meeting people’s needs to sustain independence, “fit in” and have fun just like anybody else!

Our speaker will be Suzette Soviero, Volunteer Manager.

Please join us in the Board Room after the 11 am service.

WOMEN’S RECOVERY SERVICES

After the service in the Board Room on August 13

This wonderful program focuses on breaking addiction for women in a safe residential setting. This 120 day program (with an 8 month After Care Program and two years in a transition home) allows them and their young children to live together while learning the life skills necessary to become strong, responsible contributors in their communities.
Executive Director, Linda Carlson, will describe the program and bring with her a woman who has gone through the program. Please do attend to learn more about Women’s Recovery Services. Light snacks will be provided.

HOT TOPIC: SOUTHEAST GREENWAY

HOT TOPICS

Presented by
ADVOCATES FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE UUCSR

The Santa Rosa Southeast Greenway  refers to the vacant two-mile corridor of open space connecting Spring Lake Park and Farmers Lane. This property, currently owned by Caltrans, has been deserted and closed to the public for over 50 years. Transforming this land into a vibrant urban Greenway provides a tremendous opportunity to create our own ‘Central Park’ in the heart of Santa Rosa, bringing nature within a short walk of many city residents.  Proposed features of the Greenway plan include bicycle and walking trails, community gardens, neighborhood parks, art and educational displays, community gathering spaces and restoration of creeks and natural habitat.  Come and learn more about the many social and environmental benefits that the Greenway will offer our community.

Speaker: Our UUCSR member, Linda Proulx, Co-Chair Emeritus

Please Note:  This is our first Sunday back to our two service schedule.  The Hot Topic starts after the 11 am service at approximately 12:45 pm.

We will offer a light snack, not lunch.

THE LIVING ROOM

Our May Hot Topic will be an update on what has been happening at The Living Room, which provides day services for women and children who are homeless. This past year has been a big transition as The Living Room has moved from their old home across the street, at Church of the Incarnation, to their own campus on Cleveland near College.

Katie Phillips, volunteer coordinator and member of the Mother and Children Program staff will tell us about their new location and changes to the program that they have been able to make as a result of the move.  Please note we will be meeting on the first Sunday (May 7th), rather than our usual second Sunday.

We will offer a light snack, not lunch.    Please note earlier start time:  12:30 p.m.
